So with E3 2012 starting up very soon, I figured I’d jump on the bandwagon and write up a list of what I’d like to see. Not really predictions, though it will be interesting to see what does and does not match up. Just a list of a few things I’d really like to see. Obviously this isn’t everything. Rumors abound of new console reveals, and the ever maddening possibilities fans dream up. This is simply a short list. My short list, of seven announcements, reveals, and the like, that I want to see. Enjoy.
What I want to see is more co-Op, squad type shooters. I want to hear some more about the game OverStrike, that was announced at last year’s E3. I want Valve to bring us Left 4 Dead 3. What? It’s going on three years. It’s definitely not going to be like the one year turn around between Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2. This is the type of shooter I want to see more of. We have enough single player, deathmatch, and team deathmatch shooters to last us a good five or ten years.
Unfortunately I think we’ll see more of what we have. I’ll admit to being a little interested in Halo 4, if just to see what happens to the franchise without Bungie. What we don’t need, but I’m sure we’ll get, is Call of Duty 20, Battlefield 30, Space Marine Shooter 58, and Generic War Shooter 200. I think the last FPS I picked up that I actually cared about and had fun with was Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which came out back in 2007. Not that I haven’t tried, most recently with Halo: Reach, it’s just hard for a game to shine when the genre is packed to the brim with back-to-back releases more frequent than a sports game series.
I’m looking forward to Metal Gear Rising: Reveangance. But what I’d really like to know is if Konami is going to be doing anything special for the 25th anniversary of Metal Gear. I’m kind of hoping for another new title to be announced.
I’m also interested in the new Castlevania game coming out. I’ve been kind of an on and off fan in the past. It might be a bit ‘old school’, but I really like platformers/sidescrollers, so I like that the game is supposedly going to be mostly in 2D (and 2.5D). However I think I would prefer if the game was using high quality sprites instead of 3D models. Hopfully we’ll get a good gameplay video, so I can get a better idea of how it will look and play.
I know it’s a little soon, being that Skyward Sword only came out last year, but I’d really like to see something, even just a teaser, for the next Zelda game. The 3DS has been out for over a year now, and the only Zelda game for it is the 3D version of Ocarina of Time. I’d really like to see what direction they’re going to take Zelda on their latest handheld, will it be in the vein of past handhelds and classic games like The Minish Cap and Link’s Awakening, or more like the 3D OoT, a 3D environment like the console titles? Speaking of which, will there be a Zelda for the WiiU? I don’t know about a release title, but I’d hope a Zelda game for the new console will come out in the first year or two of it’s life span. Zelda is a rather hugely selling and beloved game, even amounst the more ‘hardcore’ gamers. So a new title for the WiiU would likely help move units.
Speaking of the WiiU, I want to know more. Is it really going to be out this holiday season? I’d like to get a release date and some system specs if that’s the case. Honestly I’m really interested in the system, and I want it to do well. I hope we see the announcement of an excellent line of launch titles, and not more of the schlock shoved out by the truckload for the Wii. I’d love it if the WiiU could signal a bit more Quality Control for games on Nintendo’s systems.
I want a new Mega Man game. I’m not going to get it. We’re going to get more Street Fighters, more Marvel vs Capcoms, more Resident Evils, and an all new, all terrible Devil May Cry reboot. Incase anyone’s wondering, yes, I am currently boycotting CAPCOM’s games. I don’t own either Marvel vs Capcom 3. Mega Man Legends 3 needs to happen.
I love Skyrim. I’d have written a review for it already if I didn’t get so side-tracked by it’s world every time I play it that I haven’t seen the main quest in months. I can not wait to hear what Bethesda has planned for DLC. I’m hoping we not only get an expansion-style DLC (like Shivering Isles and Bloodmoon) but also some smaller packs.
I’m also curious to hear about this supposed Elder Scrolls MMO. Though honestly I’m more than a bit apprehensive about it. I just don’t see how the quality of game world many have come to expect from Bethesda can be present in an MMO. Much as I want more Elder Scrolls (and I WANT more Elder Scrolls), I just don’t see it working well with the current style and infrastructure of most MMOs.
I WANT AN INTERNATIONAL RELEASE OF Phantasy Star Online 2 TO BE ANNOUNCED. As far as MMOs go, I am currently playing Star Wars: The Old Republic, and I’ve found nearly every other current and upcomming MMO rather lacking. Except PSO2. I would love it if SEGA would announce that an international or english release was in the works. Heck, I’d really just like the whole game to be international, with some servers being regionally focused.
I’d also like to hear the plans for the Sonic series. The last game, Generations, was really very good, and I’m wondering what Sega is going to do next. I’ve heard rumors of a reboot, which might be overkill being that they finally seem to have gotten the series back on track. Honestly though, as long as we stay away from the Sonic Riders, ’06s, and Shadow the Hedgehogs, I’ll at least be interested.
The Tomb Raider reboot that was all over last years E3 has been relatively quiet of late, aside from the push-back of the release window and a new trailer. I’m curious to see what’s been going on and what progress has been made. I’m not the biggest Tomb Raider fan, but what was shown of this game last year really impressed me.
I’m also looking forward to Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. While it’s release date is August 28th 2012, we still don’t have that much information about the characters and multiplayer. I’m hoping those elements are revealed at this years E3. I’d really like to know what types of multiplayer will be included, and a video of character creation would be great.
